This guide shows how you can create an IOTA paper wallet in an easy way completely offline.
What you need:
– A computer you are never going to connect to the internet again (called “offline-pc” in this guide)
– A printer which is connected to this PC by wire
– A clean USB-stick
Create an IOTA paper wallet step by step:
1) The first step is creating a seed on an offline Linux or MacOS computer.
– On Linux open the Terminal application and enter cat /dev/urandom |tr -dc A-Z9|head -c${1:-81}
.
– On MacOS type cat /dev/urandom |LC_ALL=C tr -dc 'A-Z9' | fold -w 81 | head -n 1
in a terminal window.
This should yield a seed like GSGYVLSQQXDKURMREWGXPHOPABFDNHF9LYRKASGCMQWUQFPHYUWJEKUQUEZWJXENSMKXVUYWUCHRCHATU
.
This is just a random 81 character combination of the letters A to Z and 9. Hence you could also create it by yourself but we don’t recommend that.
2) On your online pc, go to the website https://arancauchi.github.io/IOTA-Paper-Wallet/ and download an offline version like highlighted in the screenshot below.
3) Now transfer the downloaded file to your offline-pc using the usb drive.
4) Open the file on your offline-pc and enter the 81-character seed we have just created. Then click CREATE.
5) The website now presents the newly created receiving address to you. We can now print the paper wallet using a wire connected printer.
6) Now your paper wallet is set up completely and you can start to transfer IOTA tokens to the receiving address of your wallet. Keep in mind that you should never expose your seed to anyone.
